Usually when I spend $20 for a game it's used, greatest hits, or horrid. This one is none of the aforementioned. ESPN NBA Basketball 2K5 by Take 2 Interactive is brilliant in many ways.

First off, I was amazed to see they allowed me to create my own shoes. A sign of a true Superstar is their very own signature kicks. The presentation lives up to the ESPN tagged to the name. Various ESPN personalities supply pre-game and post-game reports, as well as sideline reports. Bill Walton comes up with the half-time report showing replays of the best plays.

Ah, and now for the gameplay. A hop-step button has been added for another dimension in storming the hoop. Also, rebounding is more in your control, no more tapping the button and hoping you'll get it.

My only complaint is that with all of the beautifully rendered character models, your created character doesn't look up to par. The cheerleaders also look like they're straight out of a Gumby cartoon.

With the same great gameplay from last year, and new things added, for a price of $20, sports fans gotta have it.

Overall score: 9/10
